Micro-merchants outside Dhaka still can't accept digital payments reliably

Posted Jul 12, 2026, 1:19 PM

Corner shops and small vendors in secondary towns are willing to accept mobile financial services, but patchy network coverage, unfamiliar QR/app flows, and a lack of trust in reconciliation mean most transactions still happen in cash. A missed or disputed digital payment costs a vendor a full day of goodwill with a customer, so many quietly go back to cash-only. A simpler, more reliable way to accept and reconcile digital payments at the till would let these merchants keep the customers who prefer to pay digitally.
